Redclyffe Yacht Club

Tides and tools
Overview

Redclyffe Yacht Club is located on the south coast of England on the River Frome, five miles west of Poole and within the Isle of Purbeck. It is a small, friendly club that accommodates visitors in vacant berths belonging to its members.

Nested up a river and almost a dozen miles from the sea the club offers complete protection. Attentive navigation is required for access and it is shallow making it more suited to moderate to shallow draft vessels that are prepared to work the tides.
Please note

As the club accommodates visitors in vacant berths it is advisable to make contact and check availability prior to any approach.

Redclyffe Yacht Club is situated at Redclyffe on the west bank of the River Frome about a ½ mile below the ancient market town of Wareham. The channel through the River Frome is navigable to Redclyffe Yacht Club Quay for moderately sized craft drawing up to 1.5 metres, 1.4 metres being more advisable, making an approach at high water ± 1 hour.

Redclyffe Yacht Club has as little as 0.5 metres chart datum. However low water does not tend to fall below 0.9 metres except under very low river flow conditions.

The club holds no specific visitor berths but does its best to accommodate visiting boats, of up 10 metres, in the berths of resident members that are away. As such it is therefore advisable to contact the club and check availability on VHF Ch. 80 or P: +44 1202 551227 between 0900 and 1800. Alternatively email Anne Field E: anne.field20@ntlworld.com the club secretary.

Convergance Point Entry into Poole Harbour and the run up to Poole are covered in the Poole Town Quay Click to view haven entry. The continuation up the Wareham Channel and the River Frome to Redcliff are covered in the Wareham Click to view haven entry.

Haven location Berth alongside the club’s single long pontoon or on one of the club’s nearby mooring as directed by the berthing officer. If no prior arrangements have been made come alongside the pontoon’s yellow lined loading berth where a club member will advise.
Please note

Particular care should be taken if the tide is flooding.

What's the story here?
Redclyffe Yacht Club town is a friendly welcoming club with very good facilities. Its sequestered rural riverbank nature lends itself to a quiet, restful and out-of-the-way feeling where one can lean back and enjoy a good night’s sleep.

Being only a fifteen minute’ stroll, along a delightful riverside walk from Wareham, and marginally deeper than the quay, it is the perfect place to explore the historic town detailed in the Wareham entry. From the club one can enjoy all the benefits of the town without being caught up in the Quay’s hurly-burly of tourist ferries, lively cafés, bars and restaurants. For those who would prefer not to walk or intending on provisioning, it is only a half mile dinghy ride up to the quay.

What facilities are available?
The Club has showers and Wi-Fi. Water and electricity is available if berthed alongside.

Redclyffe Yacht Club town is just a 15 minute riverside walk from the grand old market town of Wareham which offers a good range of shops with a street market on the Quay on Saturdays. There are a good variety of places to eat and drink.

There are nine local bus services from Wareham to various destinations from Swanage to Poole to Exeter and Waterloo. The town is on the South Western Main Line between London Waterloo and Weymouth.
