How to smooth out the black caulking in teak deck joints.

What is the issue?
Manufacturers and suppliers of teak deck caulking recommend using a flexible putty knife to smooth out freshly squeezed-out caulking.

Why address this?
New caulk tends to stick to the blade of the knife and is just as likely to be dragged out of a seam instead of being pushed down into it.

How to address this?
Cut a potato in half and use its flat face to level the caulk. Caulk will not stick to the wet face of the potato.
