Locating engine problems

Be the first to comment

What is the issue?
Engines are very reliable if they are looked after, particularly so diesel. Yet they do have occasional problems.

Why address this?
Detecting engine issues earlier can save expense and problems at sea.

How to address this?
Paint the engine white and keep it absolutely clean, see figure 1.

A white engine will immediately show any signs of water, fuel, oil leaks or exhaust issues. The old sailing saying ‘a stitch in time saves nine’ also applies to engines and it is a tradition in large yachts to paint engines white. Spotting it early and getting on it can stop a situation developing or catching you out when you least want it.
