What is the issue?Screws, like most every fastening, have a tendency to seize up on a sea going vessels.
Why address this?A seized screw can cause major delay and on occasion damage if it has to be dug out.
How to address this?Add extra leverage and screw slot pressure by using a traditional wood brace, as presented in figure 1, to un-turn the screw.
In most cases standard screw driver bit sets fit directly into the brace. A washer filed flat on one edge can be rigged to address flat head screws. Be careful not to turn off the screws heads with the additional power.
