What is the issue?Wood screws tend not to bite securely into an end grain making it difficult to make strong end-joints with wood screws alone.
Why address this?If a secure joint cannot be made with a screw joint the job may need a wood joint that will require a significantly higher degree of wood working capabilities, time and effort.
How to address this?Drill and place in dowels for the wood screws to bite into as presented in figure 1.
